Robert A. Raguso is a Professor of Neurobiology and Behavior at Cornell University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. His research integrates chemical ecology, plant-insect interactions, and sensory biology, focusing on floral scent, pollination mechanisms, and ecological networks. He leads the Raguso Lab, which explores how chemical and physical signals mediate plant-animal interactions across scales. His work emphasizes natural history, biosynthetic pathways, and the role of humidity, temperature, and scent in pollination systems.
- Research Interests: Floral scent evolution, pollinator behavior, chemical communication, and ecological adaptation.
- Key Projects: Study of cycad pollination via humidity signals, floral volatiles in Clarkia and Onagraceae species, and the impacts of environmental stresses on plant-pollinator interactions.
Raguso teaches courses such as Chemical Ecology (BIONB 3690) and Plant-Insect Interactions (BIONB 7640), emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches. He has received the 2025 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence. His lab collaborates widely, with research spanning deserts, tropical Andes, and Mediterranean ecosystems. Recent work includes experimental manipulations of floral signals and their effects on pollinator behavior.
