Professor Ian Walker is a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Lancaster University Management School, Lancaster University. His research focuses on applied empirical microeconomic issues, including consumer behavior (especially risky consumption affecting health and well-being), labor market dynamics (labor supply and wage determination), and education economics (graduate labor market connections). He leads projects such as 'Special Education Needs, Delay to Support, and Non-Mainstream Schooling' (2025–2026) and 'Secondary School Choice and Academic Attainment' (2017–2019).
He actively participates in academic activities, including invited talks at the ANZ Gambling Research Conference, Spanish Education Economics Workshop, and IZA Educational Economics Workshop. He is affiliated with editorial boards, such as Labour Economics, and serves on committees like the Royal Economic Society and European Economics Association. His research groups include the Centre for Productivity and Innovation and the DSI - Society Economics Research Group.
Professor Walker advises four PhD students and maintains office hours on Mondays 2–3 PM and 5–6 PM.
