Dr. Gurleen Popli is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Economics at the University of Sheffield. She holds a BA from the University of Delhi, MA from Delhi School of Economics, and PhD from the University of California, Riverside. She joined Sheffield in 2004 after teaching in the UK and USA. Her research focuses on applied econometrics in Labour Economics and Education Economics, examining gender and ethnic inequalities, educational outcomes, child poverty, and early-life deprivation impacts. In 2020, she received a Leverhulme Research Fellowship for studying racial disparities in school-to-work transitions.
Her teaching emphasizes interactive learning, emphasizing core concepts and real-world applications for undergraduates and advanced methodologies for graduate students. She teaches 'Economic Analysis of Inequality and Poverty' and supervises undergraduate/postgraduate dissertations. Her work spans topics like wage inequality in Mexico, child development in the UK, and policy impacts on marginalized groups.
