Ian Vargo is a Professor of Sound Design at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since Fall 2021. He holds both M.F.A. and B.F.A. degrees in Sound Design from SCAD. His academic roles include previous positions as Professor of Audio Production at The Art Institute of California (2011–12 and 2015–18), Instructor at Los Angeles Film School (2020–21), and Program Coordinator for Visual Arts at The Art Institute of California (2012–14).
His professional background includes assistant engineering for major artists like OneRepublic and Plain White T's at 4014 Mixing (2010–11), and post-production work for global brands such as Corona and Allstate at The Chicago Recording Company (2010). He is a member of organizations like the Audio Engineering Society and ASCAP.
Research interests focus on sound design for media, audio production technologies, and the integration of music composition with visual storytelling. His work spans film soundtracks (e.g., Quarries), commercial audio production, and experimental music projects.
Ian has received the United States Navy Musical Achievement Award (2002) and recognition for films like Quarries winning Best Feature at the Women's International Film Festival. His technical expertise includes Avid Pro Tools, Ableton Live, and MIDI technologies.
