Ian Tiley

Ian Tiley is a Research Fellow at the University of New England's School of Business and a Senior Adjunct Research Fellow with the UNE Centre for Local Government. He has nearly 60 years of experience in local government, including roles as Administrator of Armidale Regional Council and Mayor of Clarence Valley Council.

His research focuses on Australian local government structural reforms, council mergers, and regional development strategies. Publications analyze historical and contemporary challenges in governance, with emphasis on democratic processes and policy efficacy.

Key works explore affordable housing policies, structural reforms, and the evolution of council amalgamations across Australian states.

He holds a PhD from the University of New England (2012), where his dissertation examined local government amalgamations using Clarence Valley Council as a case study.
