Professor Ian Shuttleworth is a Population Geographer at Queen's University Belfast's School of Natural and Built Environment, specializing in internal migration trends, residential segregation, and data infrastructure. He directs the ESRC-funded Research Support Unit for the Northern Ireland Longitudinal Study (NILS). His work examines reasons for declining migration in developed countries, socio-cultural impacts of mobility, and religious/ethnic segregation in Northern Ireland. He utilizes census data extensively, contributing to policy advisory roles on official statistics. Shuttleworth has supervised 12 PhD students and is open to supervising new candidates in migration analysis, urban change, and longitudinal studies.
