Dr Ian Robson is an Associate Professor at Northumbria University's Social Work, Education & Community Wellbeing department. His work focuses on collaborative enquiry, social design, and inclusion of marginalized groups. He holds a PhD in Nursing Related Studies (2016), PGCert in Education (2011), MSc Urban Studies (2005), and BSc (Hons) (1999). Robson has led numerous initiatives with public sector partners, including the NIHR Applied Health Consortium NENC (2020–2022) and Children and Families Newcastle - Early Help Board (2018–present). His research integrates visual arts, social theory, and lived experience to drive social change. Notable achievements include the 2023 Association of Infant Mental Health (UK) Louise Emanuel Award. He has supervised 4 student theses and contributed to impactful projects like the HEIF Impact Evaluation of Attachment Strategy in North Tyneside (2014–2015). Robson also co-authored landmark publications on basic income policy and democratic reform.
Robson’s research interests span community development, public policy, child welfare, and visual methodology. His recent works explore basic income pilots, austerity impacts on families, and Deleuzian theory applications. Over 22 peer-reviewed outputs demonstrate contributions to social science and public health. He actively engages media and mentors PhD students, emphasizing creative innovation in academic and community settings.
