Ian Rawlinson is a Reader in Fine Art at Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University, where he serves as Route Leader of the MA Fine Art program. His artistic practice, developed collaboratively with Nick Crowe since 1994, critically examines the languages of power, ideological rhetoric, and sociopolitical spectacle.
Research interests include the intersection of art with:
- National identity and cultural representation
- Environmental discourse and industrial heritage
- Political faith systems and their visual rhetoric
- Ideological consequences of public spectacle
Recent publications explore industrial symbolism (coal mining), public monumentality, and urban memory, demonstrating consistent engagement with power structures and historical narratives. No awards or student advisements are documented.
