Dr. Ian Peak is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Griffith University's School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences. His research investigates bacterial surface carbohydrate structures and their roles in pathogenesis, focusing on pathogens causing otitis media and respiratory infections. He serves as Program Director for the Bachelor of Health Science.
Qualifications include a PhD in Social Policy (University of Bath), MBA in Senior Leadership, and degrees in law and medical ethics. His research examines microbial glycobiology to identify vaccine targets against otitis media pathogens, particularly Moraxella species. Current investigations focus on polysaccharide structures from Moraxella strains and their immunogenic potential.
Recent publications analyze capsular polysaccharides from Moraxella species, lipooligosaccharide biosynthesis genes, and advances in otitis media vaccine development. His work integrates structural biology with immunological evaluation of potential vaccine candidates.
Dr. Peak leads doctoral projects on structural characterization of Moraxella surface molecules and vaccine development for childhood ear infections. His research contributes to understanding bacterial adaptation mechanisms and developing interventions against antibiotic-resistant infections.
