معرفی
Ian McCarthy is a Professor of Theoretical Astrophysics and Head of the Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI) at Liverpool John Moores University, UK. A member of ARI's Computational & Theoretical Galaxy Formation group, he combines supercomputer simulations and analytical theory to study cosmic structure formation, galaxy evolution, and cosmological probes.
His research focuses on:
- Baryonic feedback effects on large-scale structure
- Dark matter distribution in galaxy clusters
- Hydrodynamical simulations for galaxy cluster surveys
- Machine learning applications in galaxy formation
Recent work, particularly the FLAMINGO project (2023–2025), examines the interplay between cosmology, galaxy formation physics, and neutrino effects in high-resolution simulations. He collaborates extensively with observational teams and employs deep learning for weak lensing and SZ effect analyses.
