Ian Maitland

Ian Maitland is a Professor in the Strategic Management & Entrepreneurship department at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Columbia University (1979), a JD from Concord University School of Law (2005), and is a Chartered Accountant (ACA, 1970) and member of the California Bar. His academic career spans teaching in Executive MBA programs in China and Warsaw, the Management of Technology Master's Program, and visiting appointments at Keio University (2001).

Scientific awards and honors include serving as President of the Society of Business Ethics (2010-11), Senior Fellow at the Center of the American Experiment (1992-97), and President of the Minnesota Association of Scholars (1998-99). His research spans ethical theories, corporate behavior, and the socio-economic impact of globalization.

Maitland has engaged in community and policy work as a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in Minnesota's 4th District (1988, 1990, 1992), columnist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune (1993-95), and Director at the Tocqueville Center (2005-present), focusing on liberty and free institutions.
