Professor Ian Kinloch is a Professor of Materials Science at the University of Manchester, leading the Advanced Nanostructures Group within the Department of Materials and the National Graphene Institute. He holds an EPSRC Challenging Engineering Fellowship and EPSRC/RAEng Research Fellowship. His research focuses on nanomaterials, composites, and energy storage, particularly graphene-based materials. He is Head of Research for the School of Natural Sciences and Deputy Theme Leader in the Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials.
Education: BSc (Hons) in Physics from the University of Durham, PhD in Materials Science from the University of Cambridge. Professional roles include Deputy Work-package Leader of the Composites Theme in the Graphene Flagship.
Research interests emphasize nanomaterial synthesis, processing, and applications in composites and energy transition. Key projects include the Graphene Flagship and Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair in Carbon Materials.
