Ian James Gavin serves as a Native English Speaker Lecturer at the University of Salento, holding positions in both the Department of Humanities and Department of Legal Sciences within the Faculty of Law. He teaches English language courses across multiple proficiency levels from A2/B1 (Pre-Intermediate) to C1/C2 (Advanced) for law and economics students.
His teaching expertise encompasses grammar, listening comprehension, speaking practice, and reading skills with specialized focus on Legal English and Business English applications. He offers dedicated exam preparation courses for Cambridge certifications (PET, FCE, CAE) and university language requirements. His instructional approach emphasizes practical language application in academic and professional contexts, particularly for law students who require English proficiency for international legal practice and research.
Mr. Gavin maintains a substantial teaching schedule with courses running approximately 80 hours per academic year, continuing from first to second semester. He requires official textbooks (English File and Headway series) rather than photocopies, emphasizing proper learning materials. His teaching methodology incorporates both in-person instruction at the Ecotekne Center and Codacci Pisanelli Building, as well as online delivery via Google Meet when necessary.
He holds regular office hours, typically on Tuesdays from 12:30-14:30 in Room 007 of the Faculty of Law building, providing individual student consultations. His popular conversation classes include 'Speakeasy - la facoltà di parlare molto' (advanced conversation practice) and 'Il Processo del Lunedì leccese' (sports discussion in English), which foster practical speaking skills in engaging contexts.
