Associate Professor Ian Hardy is a leading academic in educational policy and politics at the School of Education, University of Queensland. He specializes in institutionalized educational settings (schools, universities) and international comparative education, with a focus on data governance, teacher learning, and global policy influences. His research examines the socio-political contexts affecting educators and systems in Australia, Scandinavia, North America, and Asia-Pacific regions.
Dr. Hardy holds degrees from The University of Queensland (BA, PG Dip, MSc, PhD) and has been at UQ since 2010, serving as Associate Professor since 2019. He is a member of the Pedagogy, Education and Praxis international consortium, collaborating across multiple countries to study professional practices and policy impacts.
His current research explores datafication in education, AI's role in learning, and East-West educational relations. Notable works include analyses of national testing in Australia (2014), teacher learning under global policy (2012), and recent studies on data governance in Singapore and Bangladesh (2025). He has secured ARC grants totaling AUD millions for projects like 'Beyond global discourses of data' (2021-2025).
