Honorary Professor Martin Mills is affiliated with the School of Education at the University of Queensland (UQ). He holds a Visiting Professorship at King's College London and is a Life Member of Clare Hall, Cambridge University. His research focuses on sociology of education, social justice, alternative schooling, gender, and pedagogical innovation. Mills' work has influenced national and international education debates through publications like Re-engaging young people in education and Boys and schooling: Beyond Structural Reform.
Mills has contributed to policy through advisory roles, including the Equity Advisory Group for Queensland and reports on school disengagement. He earned his PhD from UQ, alongside degrees in Economics and Education. His honors include Fellowship from the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA).
Key projects include the ARC Linkage studies on marginalized students and rural equity, as well as government-funded research on school retention strategies. His research emphasizes curriculum reform, teacher professionalism, and addressing systemic inequities in education systems globally.
