معرفی
Ian Gould is President's Professor in the School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU), serving as Associate Dean of Online and Digital Initiatives and Associate Dean of Instructional Innovation within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He joined ASU in 1998 and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Manchester (1980). His research focuses on organic geochemistry, green chemistry inspired by geological processes, and student performance in organic chemistry education. He leads an NSF-funded project developing an intelligent online tutoring system for organic chemistry.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of Manchester, U.K. (1980)
- M.Sc., University of Manchester, U.K. (1978)
- B.Sc., University of Manchester, U.K. (1977)
Research Interests:
Gould's work explores hydrothermal organic reactions, mineral-catalyzed processes, and geomimicry for sustainable chemistry. His lab studies reaction mechanisms using advanced techniques like real-time Raman spectroscopy and computational modeling. He also investigates student success in organic chemistry and adaptive online learning tools.
Teaching and Outreach:
He teaches courses like General Organic Chemistry II and mentors students in research through directed studies and thesis advising. His teaching emphasizes constructivist methods and technology-enhanced learning.
Labs and Collaborations:
Gould collaborates with researchers like Kurt VanLehn on educational technology and with colleagues in geochemistry to study planetary environments and organic synthesis under extreme conditions.
