Ian Fenton is a Senior Lecturer in Film & TV Production at SACI (School of Art and Creative Industries), Teesside University, and concurrently serves as Professor of Practice at the School of Modern Languages and Culture, Durham University since January 2024. He is an award-winning filmmaker with extensive industry experience, including executive production of over 100 works for platforms like BBC4 and Radio 6 Music. His professional roles include leadership in initiatives such as New Creatives North (Arts Council England/BBC-funded) and Random Acts North, producing films by emerging talent.
Research interests focus on talent development in screen industries, participatory arts practices, and creative collaboration, emphasizing inclusive methods to diversify the creative sector. His work bridges education and industry, particularly through innovative film education programs like Tyneside Cinema’s award-winning filmmaker training initiatives.
Notable achievements include a BAFTA nomination for a Byker Grove episode and recognition for his educational leadership. Fenton has contributed to over 200 creative projects, including feature films like White Settlers, and has a 15-year track record in nurturing new entrants to film and television.
