Dafydd Palfrey

Dafydd Palfrey is a Lecturer at Bangor University's School of Arts, Culture and Language, specializing in screenwriting and filmmaking education. He is an award-winning filmmaker and television director/producer with over 25 years of industry experience, having worked with major broadcasters like BBC, ITV, and HBO. His creative work spans film, television, music videos, and comics, emphasizing character-driven narratives and experimental storytelling. Dafydd holds a 1st Class Honours degree in Graphic Design/Moving Image from Camberwell College of Arts.

Research interests include innovative storytelling techniques, cross-media creativity, and the intersection of artistic expression with commercial viability. His recent projects include the film Olion, which provided student training opportunities, and film/TV projects Keep It Clean and Gren's Pen.

He has received significant industry recognition including a BAFTA Cymru (2022) and RTS Award (2005). Teaching focuses on nurturing student creativity while preparing them for professional markets. Additional roles include running screenwriting workshops for Friar’s School and NFTS Cymru, and directing music videos for both independent and commercial clients.

Outside academia, Dafydd is a 3rd Dan Karate practitioner and musician, blending artistic disciplines to inform his creative pedagogy.
