Dr. Ian Dunwell is an Assistant Professor in the CEES School of Science at Coventry University, affiliated with the Serious Games Institute. His research focuses on serious games, digital game-based learning, and the integration of semantic web technologies in educational content. He led the evaluation of the £2.5m Code of Everand serious game for road safety, involving 100,000 users, and co-investigated the ALICE FP7 STREP project on adaptive learning systems. He supervises PhD studentships funded by Jaguar Land Rover and PlayGen, exploring avatars as vehicle interfaces and semantic web applications in game development.
His work emphasizes practical design processes for game-based solutions, bridging academic research with industrial applications. Key contributions include the EN-Survival environmental game, entrepreneurship training frameworks, and systematic reviews on health-related board games. He actively participates in conferences as a speaker and session chair, advancing interdisciplinary dialogue in gamification and educational technology.
