Professor Ian Candy is a Professor in Geography at the Department of Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London, and a member of the Centre for Quaternary Research. His research focuses on Quaternary environmental change, climate variability, and human-environment interactions. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and sustainable development.
Professor Candy has supervised 10 research students and led/co-led 7 major projects, including the AHOB3 project on early human dispersals and the GEOCUSECLA project on sedimentary analogs. His collaborations span international researchers and institutions, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to Quaternary science and archaeology.
His research outputs include over 98 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, with recent work examining Holocene climate events, lacustrine climate proxies, and prehistoric human migration patterns. He is actively involved in reconstructing past climates using geochemical and isotopic methods.
