Iain McCulloch is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of polymer chemistry and materials science. Currently, he serves as the Director of the KAUST Solar Center and Professor of Chemical Science at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) since 2016 and 2014, respectively. He is also a Professor of Polymer Chemistry at the University of Oxford's Department of Chemistry (2020–present) and previously held the same position at Imperial College London (2007–2020).
His research focuses on polymer chemistry, organic electronics, semiconducting polymers, solar energy, and functional materials. McCulloch has held leadership roles, including Head of the Nanomaterials and Devices Research Section at Imperial College London (2014–2015). Prior to academia, he worked in industry at Merck Chemicals (2000–2007), International Specialty Products (1998–2000), and Hoechst Celanese Corporation (1989–1998).
McCulloch has received numerous honors, including the 2020 Blaise Pascal Medal for Materials Science, election to the Royal Society (2020), and a 2014 ERC Synergy Grant. His contributions to solar energy and functional materials have been widely recognized internationally.
