Albert Ludwig University of Freiburgمعرفی
Ian James Kidd is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Nottingham. Previously affiliated with Durham and Leeds universities, his work focuses on moral and epistemic virtues/vices, epistemic injustice in healthcare, misanthropy, and philosophies of South/East Asia (Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism). He co-leads the Wellcome-funded EPIC project (2023–2029) addressing epistemic injustice in healthcare systems. Kidd advocates for philosophy's diversification and serves on the British Philosophical Association's Executive Committee.
His research explores intersections between ethics, epistemology, and healthcare, with recent emphases on institutional opacity, patient narratives, and 'pathophobia'—pathologizing illness experiences. Kidd also engages in public philosophy, emphasizing accessibility and interdisciplinary dialogue. Notable projects include studies on transhumanism, environmental ethics, and critiques of scientism. His book on misanthropy, examining historical and contemporary perspectives, is forthcoming.
Teaching and mentoring form a core part of his academic contributions, alongside organizing conferences/workshops on topics like 'Epistemic Vices in Non-Ideal Worlds' and 'Philosophy of Illness.' Kidd's work bridges theoretical philosophy with practical applications, addressing systemic biases and advocating for more inclusive intellectual practices.
