I. Joseph Kroll is the Robert I. Williams Endowed Term Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts & Sciences. He has held faculty positions since 1997, progressing from Assistant Professor (1997–2001) to Associate Professor (2001–2006) before his current role. His research focuses on experimental particle physics, including collider physics, electroweak interactions, and searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model.
Education includes a B.A. in Physics (summa cum laude) from UC Berkeley (1982) and a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University (1989), advised by Carlo Rubbia. He has been affiliated with major experimental collaborations like ATLAS (CERN), CDF (Fermilab), and OPAL (CERN), contributing to studies of proton-proton, proton-antiproton, and electron-positron collisions.
- Teaching: Courses include Principles of Physics I/II, Laboratory Electronics, and Modern Physics Laboratory.
- Awards: AAAS and APS Fellowships, DOE Outstanding Junior Investigator, Wilson Fellowships, and academic honors from UC Berkeley.
Professional affiliations include the APS Division of Particles and Fields and AAAS. His work emphasizes precision measurements in particle physics and exploration of non-standard model particles.
