Héctor García is an Assistant Professor of Engineering at Dartmouth College. He holds a BSc (2012) and PhD (2017) in Physics from the Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (UNCPBA), Argentina. Currently on leave from his roles as Associate Professor at UNCPBA and Research Scientist at CONICET (National Council of Scientific and Technical Research), he focuses on biomedical optics and near-infrared spectroscopy. His research explores photon migration in heterogeneous tissues, diffuse optical tomography, and fluorescence-guided surgery using agents like indocyanine green and protoporphyrin IX.
Key projects include developing the MamoRef optical mammography device and advancing fluorescence imaging for cancer detection. He has received the IOP Outstanding Reviewer Award (2022) and was a finalist for the Bernard Couillaud Award (2022). His work bridges theoretical photonics modeling with experimental techniques, emphasizing clinical applications in oncology and neuroimaging.
Research contributions span optical parameter retrieval via Kalman filters, Monte Carlo simulations for lesion detection, and analytical models for multilayered media. He collaborates on interdisciplinary projects combining optical imaging with ultrasound guidance, aiming to improve surgical precision and diagnostic accuracy.
