Hyu Kim

Hyu Kim is a Researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for Continuous mRNA Manufacturing, with expertise in developing instrumentation and statistical tools for human health and sustainability applications. They completed their PhD research on microbial processing of biologically fixed CO₂ under supervision by Prof. Cullen Buie and Dr. Xavier Mayali, and are currently advancing their research training with Prof. Richard Braatz and Prof. Allan Myerson.

Dr. Kim's interdisciplinary research spans biotechnology, biomanufacturing, and data analytics, with a focus on creating sustainable solutions for environmental and health challenges. Their work integrates engineering principles with biological systems, particularly through microfluidic platforms and electrokinetic analysis techniques. This approach enables novel methodologies for bacterial characterization and pathogen profiling without requiring invasive procedures.

Dr. Kim's 2023 publication in Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology introduced a groundbreaking high-throughput method using microfluidic dielectrophoresis to distinguish Escherichia coli strains based on lipopolysaccharide structures. This innovation represents a significant shift from traditional proteomic analysis toward more efficient, noninvasive characterization techniques with potential applications in medical diagnostics.
