معرفی
Hyoun-A Joo is an Assistant Professor in the School of Modern Languages at the Georgia Institute of Technology, affiliated with the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. Her research focuses on bilingualism, intercultural communication, and second language acquisition, particularly examining how social factors influence language use among immigrant communities. She holds a Ph.D. in German Applied Linguistics and Language Science from Penn State University (2018) and a Magistra Artium in Contemporary German Literature from Freie Universität Berlin (2007).
Dr. Joo's work bridges linguistic theory and applied contexts, such as developing intercultural competence through case studies and simulations. Her projects include analyzing German verb placement among Korean immigrants and exploring pragmatic speech acts in bilingual settings. She has held roles as a postdoctoral GLACT fellow at Georgia Tech (2018–2019) and as an assistant professor at Furman University (2019–2020).
Her research trends emphasize sociolinguistic dimensions of language contact, bilingual pragmatics, and educational methodologies to enhance intercultural understanding. She has contributed to pedagogical innovations in language teaching, particularly in corporate and crisis-response contexts. While no awards are explicitly listed, her publications reflect sustained engagement with underresearched areas of bilingualism and heritage language dynamics.
