Hynek Bartoš serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, Prague. With a Ph.D. and extensive academic experience, he is a leading scholar in ancient philosophy and the history of science, particularly focusing on the interplay between philosophy and medicine in classical antiquity.
His research centers on Ancient Greek Philosophy, History of Natural Sciences, and Philosophy of Science, with deep investigations into Aristotle's biology, Hippocratic medical texts, and ancient dietetics. Bartoš examines conceptual frameworks like soul-body relationships, innate heat theory, and balanced mixtures, revealing how ancient thinkers integrated empirical observation with philosophical reasoning to understand health and natural phenomena.
Analysis of Bartoš's 15 most recent publications shows a consistent focus on textual analysis of primary sources (Hippocratic Corpus, Plato, Aristotle), historical development of medical concepts, and philosophical implications of ancient science. His work bridges classical studies with history of science, demonstrating how ancient holistic approaches inform modern interdisciplinary research in philosophy of medicine and biology.
Bartoš has secured continuous funding as principal investigator for Czech Science Foundation (GAČR) projects since 2004, including the current "Vyvážené směsi a smíšené ústavy" (2025–2027). His research output includes influential monographs like Philosophy and Dietetics in the Hippocratic On Regimen (2015) and edited volumes such as Aristotle Reads Hippocrates (2024), establishing him as a key contributor to understanding ancient scientific thought.
