Hyewon Yi

Hyewon Yi is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Amelie A. Wallace Gallery at Old Westbury Campus, SUNY. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the City University of New York (CUNY), an M.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and postgraduate studies in Art History and Criticism from Sook Myung Women's University. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary art, photography, and curatorial practices, with a specialization in Korean art post-1989 and documentary photography.

Her scholarly work includes studies on photographers like Larry Clark and Nobuyoshi Araki, and she has curated exhibitions exploring post-1989 Korean art. She teaches courses on art history, photography, and curating at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Dr. Yi’s contributions extend to gallery leadership, fostering student engagement through exhibitions and curatorial projects. Her office hours in Fall 2023 are Mondays 9:30 AM–12:30 PM and Wednesdays 9:30 AM–10:30 AM.
