Hunter Schroer, PhD, PE, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T). He is also a Research Investigator at the Center for Research in Energy and Environment and the Thomas J. O’Keefe Center for Critical Minerals. Dr. Schroer holds a PhD and MS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Iowa and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Baylor University. His professional experience includes roles as a research scientist and consulting engineer.
His research focuses on environmental biotechnology, integrating computational and laboratory methods to advance clean water production, biogas recovery, and sustainable resource utilization. Key areas include anaerobic codigestion optimization, microbial community dynamics, and photolytic degradation of organic contaminants. He has pioneered sensor technologies for freshwater mussels to assess aquatic ecosystem health.
Dr. Schroer’s recent work emphasizes data-driven approaches for biogas forecasting and SCADA system integration. His publications span anaerobic digestion chemistry, nitro compound degradation mechanisms, and plant-microbe interactions in pollutant metabolism. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Colorado and actively contributes to interdisciplinary energy and environment research initiatives.
