Humberto Campins is a Pegasus Professor and Provost Research Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Central Florida (UCF), where he leads the Planetary and Space Science Group. Previously, he held positions including Professor at the University of Florida (1997-1998), Director of the Florida Space Grant Consortium (1994-1998), and adjunct faculty at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory of the University of Arizona (1998-2002). His research focuses on comets, asteroids, and small bodies in the solar system, examining their role in delivering water and organic molecules to Earth and Mars, supported by NASA and the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Campins' career includes postdoctoral work at the University of Maryland and the Planetary Science Institute. He has held significant administrative roles, including Program Officer at the Research Corporation. His research leverages ground-based, airborne, and space-based telescopes to study celestial mechanics and planetary formation processes.
Advising and grants: Campins has directed major consortia and secured substantial NSF/NASA funding. His work contributes to UCF's Department of Physics, part of the College of Sciences. The Planetary and Space Science Group under his leadership advances interdisciplinary research in astrobiology and planetary dynamics.
