Dr. Hui Xie is a Professor and the Maureen and Milan Ilich/Merck Chair in Statistics for Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases at Simon Fraser University's Faculty of Health Sciences. His expertise lies in biostatistics, with a focus on clinical trial design, missing data analysis, and statistical methods for combining health data. Dr. Xie earned his BS in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Peking University, MS in Statistics from Purdue University, and PhD in Biostatistics from Columbia University.
His research explores the design and analysis of clinical studies for arthritis, cancer, and other diseases. Key interests include statistical methods for evaluating treatment impacts, risk factor identification for chronic conditions, and improving large medical database usability. He has contributed to over 100 peer-reviewed publications, many addressing arthritis epidemiology and biostatistical methodologies.
Dr. Xie's recent work includes studies on biosimilar drug safety, antimalarial medication adherence in autoimmune diseases, and the epidemiology of sepsis in sub-Saharan Africa. He teaches advanced biostatistics courses and advises on statistical methodologies for population health studies.
His research has been supported by grants from organizations like Merck Frosst and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Dr. Xie collaborates with global teams on projects such as the IMPACC study on sepsis pathobiology and the STOP OsteoARthritis program for early knee OA prevention.
