معرفی
Hui Shen, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Epigenetics at Van Andel Institute (VAI), with expertise in bioinformatics and computational biology applied to cancer epigenetics. She leads the Shen Laboratory, focusing on epigenomic mechanisms in diseases, particularly female cancers and cross-cancer comparisons. Her work integrates advanced genomic technologies and bioinformatics to understand cancer etiology and develop translational approaches for diagnosis and therapy.
Education: B.Sc. in Biology from Nanjing University; Ph.D. in Genetic, Molecular, and Cellular Biology from the University of Southern California (USC), supported by a Provost Ph.D. Fellowship. She contributed to The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), a landmark initiative mapping cancer genomics, and co-led the VAI-SU2C Epigenetics Dream Team.
Research interests include DNA methylation analysis, pan-cancer epigenetic comparisons, and translational epigenetic tools. Her lab pioneered methods like BISCUIT for epigenetic-genetic inference and identified β cell subtypes using epigenetic dosage. Key projects involve Fallopian tube molecular phenotyping, immune cell metabolism in cancer, and endometriosis-related ovarian carcinoma origins.
Publications highlight over 122 papers in 2024, including high-impact journals. Awards include the AIMBE College of Fellows (2025), Liz Tilberis Award, and NIH MERIT Award. She has launched 15 clinical trials and co-organized the VAI-SU2C Epigenetics Dream Team.
Labs/Teams: Shen Laboratory (Lead Investigator), VAI-SU2C Epigenetics Dream Team, TCGA collaborator. Future work focuses on epigenetic drivers of metastasis, single-cell epigenomics, and clinical assay development for markers from bioinformatics analysis.
