معرفی
Hui-Min Chung is a Lecturer in the Biology department at the University of West Florida, actively participating in the SEA-PHAGES program since 2015. They have instructed multiple sections of undergraduate biology laboratory courses, including BSC2010L and BSC2011L, engaging students in bacteriophage discovery and genomic analysis.
Research interests include Microbiology, Phage Genomics, Bioinformatics, Evolutionary Biology, and Science Education. Dr. Chung's work emphasizes integrating authentic research experiences into the curriculum, allowing students to isolate novel phages, perform genomic sequencing, and conduct bioinformatic annotation.
Teaching Experience Highlights:
- 12 course sections taught from Fall 2015 to Spring 2020, mentoring over 220 undergraduate students.
- Courses covered both in situ (phage discovery using hosts: Mycobacterium smegmatis, Gordonia terrae, Microbacterium foliorum) and in silico (bioinformatics) approaches.
- Consistently taught freshmen, with occasional inclusion of sophomores and seniors.
As a member of the national SEA-PHAGES consortium, Dr. Chung collaborates with educators across the United States to advance science education through undergraduate research.
