Hui-Chen Chen

Dr. Hui-Chen Chen is a Senior Lecturer at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, part of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She holds a Ph.D. from NUS and master's and bachelor's degrees in Nursing from the University of Sydney. Her expertise lies in nursing education, effective communication, and psychoeducation for patients with chronic illnesses. She is an accredited associate coach specializing in peer and student mentorship, focusing on crisis management and clinical preparedness.

Dr. Chen’s research emphasizes innovative pedagogical approaches, including simulation-based learning, blended learning, and formative assessment. Her work has led to pedagogical innovations adopted across teaching communities, recognized by awards such as the NUS Teaching Excellence Award (2022) and Provost’s Educator Award (2020). Her funded projects include studies on psychoeducational interventions for haemodialysis patients and cognitive integration in nursing education.

Her research interests span psychoeducation for chronic illness, nursing pedagogy, and communication strategies in healthcare. Notable publications address topics like patient self-efficacy, caregiving challenges in chronic kidney disease, and collaborative learning in healthcare education. She also contributes to interprofessional education and simulation training, enhancing clinical skills and empathy among nursing students.
