Hugo Guerrero Cazares

Hugo Guerrero Cazares, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where he also holds Associate Consultant I-Research appointments in the Departments of Neuroscience and Cancer Biology. He leads the Neurogenesis and Brain Tumors Laboratory and maintains an adjunct professorship at Anahuac University in Mexico City.

Dr. Guerrero Cazares' research focuses on the interaction between brain tumors, particularly glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), and neurogenesis, with emphasis on the subventricular zone. His work explores tumor cell migration, neural progenitor interactions, and proteomic signaling in the tumor microenvironment. Funded by the National Cancer Institute, his research aims to translate findings into novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for brain tumor patients.

His recent publications highlight advancements in understanding cathepsin B signaling in GBM, extracellular vesicles in tumor communication, sex-specific differences in glioblastoma, and the role of biomaterials in CNS repair. These studies appear in high-impact journals such as Science Advances, Frontiers in Oncology, and Molecular Aspects of Medicine, reflecting a strong trend in translational neuro-oncology and regenerative approaches.
