Professor Hugo Dobson, based at the University of Sheffield within the School of Languages, Arts and Societies, is a leading scholar in Japan's International Relations. With a career spanning since 2001 at Sheffield and previous roles at the University of Tokyo and University of Kent, his expertise focuses on Japan's engagement with multilateral institutions like the G7 and G20.

His research examines two core areas: Japan's role in global governance through summit participation and visual representations (postage stamps, TV media) shaping international perceptions.
