Hugh Jack

Hugh Jack is the Cass Balleneger Distinguished Professor at Western Carolina University, serving in the School of Engineering + Technology within the College of Engineering and Technology. He holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, respectively, from The University of Western Ontario. His work bridges advanced manufacturing, automation, and innovative pedagogy.

Teaching focuses include design, project management, control systems, PLCs, industrial automation, robotics, and mechatronics. Research emphasizes Industry 4.0, IoT, AI in robotics, embedded systems, and PBL methodologies. He pioneered individual lab kit systems for electronics education and led global initiatives like the Fulbright US Scholar Project in Bulgaria.

Recent articles highlight his contributions to chatbot integration in engineering education, IoT-driven PBL, and pandemic-era teaching strategies.
