Hugh Geaney is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Sciences at the University of Limerick. He is affiliated with the Bernal Institute and the Centre for Battery and Energy Materials Research. His research focuses on energy storage systems, including Li-ion, Li-metal, Li-S, Li-O₂, Na-ion, and Mg-ion batteries, with an emphasis on materials characterization and electrochemical testing. He also explores nanomaterials synthesis and electrochemistry method development. Geaney holds a BSc (2008) and PhD (2012) in Chemistry from UL, followed by postdoctoral research at UCC and UL. He became an independent Principal Investigator in 2019 with a SIRG grant. He teaches inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry, and directs the LM123 Biological and Chemical Sciences course.
