Dr. Hugh F. Williamson is a Research Fellow in the Philosophy and History of Science and Technology Research Group at TU Munich's STS Department. His work bridges Science and Technology Studies (STS) with the History and Philosophy of Science (HPS), focusing on data practices in agriculture, digital technologies, and Eastern European rural studies. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2019) on Transylvanian liberalism's sociocultural dynamics.
Research interests include responsible innovation frameworks for digital livestock tech, plant breeding data governance, and sociopolitical transformations in Romania/Eastern Europe. He co-edited Towards Responsible Plant Data Linkage (Springer 2023) and produced the documentary Digital Animals (2024), examining tech ethics in farming.
Key awards include the Pigott Award (2014-2018) and Newton Trust Award (2013-2014). His recent work explores digital transformation's societal impacts through workshops at Egenis (Exeter) and the DIGIT Lab, emphasizing participatory tech development.
