Dr. Huacheng Zhang is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and Associate Professor in Chemical and Environmental Engineering at RMIT University. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2014), and held postdoctoral and academic positions at Monash University before joining RMIT in 2020.

His research focuses on bioinspired sub-nanofluidic membranes for energy conversion, water desalination, and ion extraction. Key themes include metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), ion-selective membranes, and stimuli-responsive material design. He has published 70+ peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals like Nature Materials and Science Advances, with 7000+ citations and an H-index of 42.
Recent publications highlight advancements in subnanochannel ion sieving, energy harvesting from nanofluidic systems, and sustainable lithium extraction. These works integrate materials engineering, environmental applications, and chemical innovation.
