Hsiu-chuan LIAO is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Linguistics, National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan), where she has been teaching since 2006. She previously held positions at De La Salle University (Manila, Philippines) and the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (USA). Her research focuses on Historical Linguistics, Austronesian Linguistics, and the morphosyntactic typology of Philippine languages, particularly issues related to ergativity, transitivity, and historical reconstruction.

Research Interests: Her work explores language contact, genetic relationships, and the diachronic development of morphosyntactic features in Philippine and Austronesian languages. She has published extensively on topics such as pronouns, focus morphology, and verbal affixes in languages like Central Cagayan Agta and Northern Philippine languages.
