Hsini Des

Hsini Des is an Instructor of Art at James Madison University since 2021, affiliated with the School of Art, Design and Art History. She holds an M.F.A. from Hunter College, a B.F.A. from Alfred University, and a Master’s in Library Science from Rutgers University. Her work emphasizes community engagement and contemporary art practices, blending digital and installation art with public interventions.

Key research interests include site-specific installations, mixed media, and the intersection of art with public spaces. Her exhibitions include venues in New York City, such as the cover of Conjunctions and a billboard at Broadway and 174th Street. Residencies include the Institute for Electronic Art (Alfred, N.Y.), Artshack (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Works on Water on Governors Island, N.Y.

Awards include the Rema Hort Mann Community Engagement Grant and recognition from the C12 Emerging Artist Award. Her artistic practice bridges experimental media and community-focused projects, reflecting her dual role as an artist and educator.
