Hourig Attarian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Concordia University, Canada, and a core member of the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling (COHDS). Her interdisciplinary work focuses on memory, identity, and storytelling through visual and narrative methods. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from McGill University.
Her research explores life histories and autobiographical inquiry, particularly in documenting intergenerational narratives of genocide survivors, emphasizing women’s and girls’ experiences. Projects include Stories scorched from the desert sun (a collaborative staged reading script) and Come wash with us: Seeking home in story, which examines war and genocide memories through multimedia collaboration. She has contributed to scholarly publications and presentations on performing difficult memories.
Attarian’s affiliation with COHDS highlights her commitment to oral history and digital storytelling as tools for preserving marginalized narratives. Her work bridges academic research with public engagement, addressing challenges in memorialization and cultural heritage.
