California State University, Fullertonمعرفی
Hope A. Johnson is a Professor of Biological Science at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). She teaches courses in General Microbiology (Biol 302), Genetics and Molecular Biology (Biol 251), and Advanced Microbiology (Biol 430/431). Her research focuses on environmental microbiology, particularly bacterial manganese oxidation and its biogeochemical implications.
Dr. Johnson holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Cornell University, followed by MS and PhD degrees in Microbiology from Stanford University. Postdoctoral training included work at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and The Scripps Research Institute. Her lab investigates manganese cycling mechanisms, microbial-mineral interactions, and bioremediation strategies.
Key research interests include manganese oxide formation, cyanobacterial mat structures, and microbial contributions to geochemical processes. Her work bridges biology, chemistry, and geology, with field studies in hot springs and lakes. The lab collaborates on carbonate precipitation dynamics and microbialite analogs for paleoenvironmental studies.
Publications span molecular mechanisms of metal oxidation, microbial community dynamics, and structural biology. The lab actively engages undergraduate researchers and maintains a focus on interdisciplinary environmental science.
