معرفی
Hooshang Lahooti is a Principal Hospital Scientist / Principal Scientific Officer and Conjoint Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at the Nepean Clinical School, University of Sydney. His research focuses on autoimmune thyroid diseases, particularly Graves' ophthalmopathy and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, with emphasis on molecular mechanisms, immunological pathways, and genetic predispositions. He has published extensively on topics including autoantibody profiles, genetic polymorphisms (e.g., CASQ1 and thyroglobulin genes), and vitamin D deficiency's role in disease progression.
Key research interests include:
- Autoimmunity mechanisms in endocrine disorders
- Molecular and cellular biology of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy
- Genetic risk factors for autoimmune diseases
- Forensic analysis of pandemic data (e.g., COVID-19)
Recent work highlights:
- 2024: Systems analysis of Long COVID syndrome in LGBTQIA+ communities
- 2023: Smoking's impact on Graves' ophthalmopathy antibodies
- 2022: Global forensic evaluation of pandemic data integrity
He has secured grants including 'Thyretain TSI in Euthyroid Graves Disease' (2013) and studies on vitamin D deficiency and thyroid disease (2014). Collaborations include work with the Nepean Medical Research Foundation and Australian Women and Children’s Research Foundation.
Lahooti is affiliated with the University of Sydney's clinical school and contributes to translational research bridging molecular biology and clinical endocrinology.
