Prof. Hongwei Wu is a Full Professor of Chemical Engineering at Curtin University's School of Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering. He holds roles as Editor-in-Chief of Energy & Fuels and leads research in energy science, bioenergy, and thermochemical processing. His career spans academia and industry, with notable awards including the 2011 Woodside Encouragement Award and 2018 Excellence in Research Supervision.
Education: BE/MEng (Thermal Power, HUST, China) and PhD (Chemical Engineering, University of Newcastle, Australia). Postdoctoral research at Monash University preceded his academic appointment at Curtin in 2002. Promoted to Professor in 2010.
Research focuses on biofuel production, biochar applications, and carbon management. Key areas include pyrolysis of biomass/waste, mineral matter transformation, and renewable energy technologies. Over 300 peer-reviewed publications and contributions to ACS journals highlight his impact.
Scientific contributions include advancements in waste tire valorization, bio-oil characterization, and emissions control. Active in editorial roles and international collaborations, he also advises on energy policy and sustainable technologies.
