Dr. Hongfu Sun is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, The University of Queensland (UQ). He holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Alberta (2015) and completed postdoctoral training in Calgary until 2018. He joined UQ in 2019 and was awarded the ARC DECRA Fellowship in 2021. His research focuses on advanced MRI techniques, particularly Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM), fast MRI acquisitions, and deep learning applications for medical imaging.
Dr. Sun’s work bridges biomedical engineering, image processing, and neurosciences. His research interests include developing novel MRI contrast mechanisms, optimizing image reconstruction algorithms, and applying AI-driven methods to enhance clinical diagnostics. He collaborates with teams in imaging, sensing, and biomedical engineering at UQ’s School of ITEE.
- Research Areas: QSM, deep learning, MRI acceleration, neurological disease imaging.
- Awards: ARC DECRA Fellowship (2021).
He actively supervises graduate students in biomedical engineering and medical imaging. His publications span journals like NeuroImage, Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, and Frontiers in Neuroscience.
