Dr. Hong Wen is a Professor in the Department of Epigenetics at Van Andel Institute, where she investigates epigenetic regulation of gene expression in pediatric cancers. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor (2008) and Associate Professor (2017) at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center before joining VAI in 2018 and being promoted to Professor in 2023. Her research focuses on chromatin machinery in MLL-rearranged leukemia, Wilms tumor, and tumor suppressor ZMYND11.
- B.S. in Biochemistry, Wuhan University
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Postdoctoral Fellow, Stanford University
Dr. Wen's research encompasses epigenetic dysregulation in cancer, histone modifications, and transcription elongation. She works on
- ENL/MLLT1's role in pediatric leukemias (YEATS domain characterization)
- ZMYND11 as an H3.3-specific reader of H3K36me3
- Small-molecule compound development for epigenetic therapy
- Wilms tumor molecular mechanisms
- Chromatin reader proteins
