Hong Qin, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, holding dual appointments in the Department of Internal Medicine (Division of Hematology/Oncology), Department of Cancer Biology, and Department of Research (Immunology). His work is deeply integrated within Mayo Clinic's comprehensive cancer research infrastructure, including the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center and the David F. and Margaret T. Grohne Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapeutics Program.
Education:
- MD in Clinical Medicine, Shanghai Second Medical University
- MS in Life Science, Vrije (Free) Universiteit Brussel
- PhD in Anatomy and Cell Biology, University of Western Ontario
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, National Cancer Institute
Dr. Qin's research is centered on the translational development of novel immunotherapies for blood cancers, structured around a 'discovery, development, and delivery' pipeline. His work spans monoclonal antibody discovery using hybridoma and phage display techniques, development of advanced therapeutics including BiTe antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, and next-generation CAR-T cell therapies (bi-specific, tri-specific, armored, and combinational approaches), and the critical final step of clinical translation through GMP process development, quality control, and clinical trial design.
He is currently establishing a process development laboratory and GMP facility to enable in-house production of investigational therapeutics, significantly accelerating the path from bench to bedside. His accomplishments include a lymphoma vaccine tested in human studies and a novel CAR-T therapy advancing toward first-in-human clinical trials for leukemia.
Dr. Qin's scientific contributions focus on identifying new therapeutic targets and overcoming barriers to curative immunotherapy in cancer patients, particularly those with limited treatment options.
Administrative Appointments:
- Senior Associate Consultant II-Research, Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine
- Senior Associate Consultant II-Research, Department of Cancer Biology
- Senior Associate Consultant II-Research, Immunology, Department of Research
His work is supported by institutional integration within key research centers and programs at Mayo Clinic, emphasizing individualized medicine, regenerative biotherapeutics, and cancer immunology.
