Holly East is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography at Northumbria University, specializing in the intersection of geomorphology and ecology in tropical coastal environments, particularly seagrass and reef island systems. She holds a PhD in Physical Geography from the University of Exeter (2017), an MPhil in Environmental Science from the University of Cambridge (2012), and a BA in Geography from the University of Cambridge (2011).
Her research focuses on: (1) reconstructing coral reef island evolution over millennial to decadal timescales, (2) quantifying reef sediment budgets and connectivity, (3) understanding seagrass dynamics and anthropogenic impacts, and (4) geospatial analysis using GIS and remote sensing. Recent work highlights coral thermal tolerance, STEM outreach evaluation, and UAV-based seagrass mapping.
Publications since 2023 explore coral adaptation to climate change, reef island dynamics, and mangrove dieback mechanisms. Collaborative projects span the Indian Ocean, Caribbean, and Honduras. Despite no listed awards, her work emphasizes environmental monitoring and climate resilience.
Holly has supervised three academic works and maintains active research networks. Her methodologies combine fieldwork, remote sensing, and interdisciplinary approaches to coastal systems.
